There are two kinds of Halloween porch. The one with a skeleton and orange lights, and the one that makes the neighbours slow down because it looks like a magazine. This is the second kind, and it’s the Curated Manor way: bold colour, high contrast, good materials.
The palette is black, oxblood and brass. Pale pumpkins keep it from going gothic.

The door sets the tone
If your door is already dark, you’re most of the way there. If it isn’t, a black dried wreath does the same job for a tenth of the effort. Dried, not fresh, so it lasts until the day you take it down.

Two urns, planted dark
Symmetry is what reads as designed from the street. Two tall black urns either side of the door, planted with dried pampas and oxblood dried florals. Dried florals don’t care about frost, and they cost a fraction of a nursery run every weekend.
Seasonal pieces sell through fast, so check availability before you buy.

Pumpkins in two colours only
Oxblood and cream. Burgundy velvet pumpkins for the colour, and real or faux pale ones for the contrast. Cluster them in odd numbers on the steps, biggest at the bottom. If you’d rather stay neutral, champagne velvet works, and the oxblood goes into the wreath instead.
Brass, lit
Two brass lanterns on the steps, lit from dusk. Add warm white string lights along the railing and change the porch bulb to 2700K. At night the lanterns are the whole porch, so this is the part not to skip.

Layer the doormat
A wide jute mat with a narrower black and cream striped mat on top. It’s the detail people copy and the cheapest thing on this list.
Down by November 1st
Everything here except the oxblood pumpkins carries straight into Thanksgiving. Swap them for cream and the porch is autumn again. The softer version of this porch is in our elegantly spooky front porch, and the fall-only version is the fall porch refresh. For the whole house laid out and shoppable, start with our Room Recipes.
